Results - Medway Velo Club "10" June 2nd 2007
After the miserable weather over the Holiday weekend the fine weather returned for the 3rd running of the Ken Stokes Memorial 10 on the Grain course. Ken Stokes, a former Chairman of the Club, was tragically killed by a hit and run driver whilst competing in the 1998 North Road 24.
Kevin Tye, winner of our Open 25 last month, returned to complete the double. But Paul Burrows, 37 seconds adrift last time out, closed the gap on him to just 9 seconds. Returning to form following an accident with a careless driver Ben Ward completed a trio of 21 minute rides for third place, a further 6 seconds in arrears. The amazing Carole Gandy continued her unbeatable form this season to collect the awards for best lady and veteran.
In 15-year-old Joe Tucker, the promoting Club has a promising new talent this year. Following a mid-week pb of 25.02 in the SEKTTEL 10 he produced an equally good ride on this more challenging course to take the best Juvenile/Junior award, his 7th such award in as many outings this season. This is likely to be his last event as a Juvenile as he moves up to the Junior ranks next week.
Our events always strive to encourage newcomers to the sport. Earlier versions of our 25 contained an award for the fastest novice and we continued the tradition in both of our events this year by giving awards to the fastest rider on a conventional bike. Rob Sapp took the honours in this category with a pb of 25.18.
